Welcome to the Art Gallery of Calgary

A Message from the President and CEO

Valerie Cooper This past summer, the Art Gallery of Calgary completed an exciting series of renovations to our beautiful galleries. Our Finishing Touches campaign included the creation of a versatile Media Gallery dedicated to screening video and film. The AGC is one of the few galleries in western Canada with a dedicated space for the exhibition of new media works.

The Finishing Touches project revitalized the AGC with fresh paint, improved lighting and a state-of-the-art sound system, increasing our ability to present top-notch contemporary art exhibitions and programs. Better visitor orientation, comfortable gallery furniture and an expanded AGCshop all helped to improve the experience of visiting the gallery. Behind the scenes, Finishing Touches included the conversion of unused office space to a functional Boardroom, the installation of a security system and upgrades to our computer network. In October of 2007, the AGC completed the second phase of the Finishing Touches project, which included the installation of environmental controls into the Top Gallery. The AGC will be one of only three galleries in Calgary to have this feature, allowing us to showcase a broader range of exhibits.

With the refurbishment and doubling of the AGCshop space, the Gallery is currently on the lookout for unique and fresh creations by local, regional and national artists. If you are interested in this great opportunity to exhibit and sell your work in Calgary’s largest public gallery, please visit the AGCshop link on the front page of this website.

This year, the Art Gallery of Calgary turns 30, and to celebrate we hosted the REDhot Gala, a one of a kind cocktail event on September 29, 2007. The AGC has accomplished much, surmounted a few challenges and seen plenty of growth during our history. As always, we are working hard to be recognized as one of Calgary’s leading arts institutions and we are constantly looking ahead.

I would like to acknowledge and thank our AGC members, patrons, artists, funders, community partners, board and staff for supporting the Gallery in all that we do to serve our community. I am proud to be a part of an organization that has contributed to Calgary’s vibrant culture for over 30 years.

I invite you to visit our Gallery today, walk through our beautiful spaces and explore our current exhibitions.

Valerie Cooper
